Sample Pack Contest III
Hosted at the VGMusic Forums by MaliceX and ButzaW
Original concept by Blitz Lunar.

Information:

The first Sample Pack Contest was conceptualised in February 2005. The second one was finished by January 2006. This time we have 27 amazing entries from 11 equally amazing artists.

Sample Pack Contest III ran from April to June of 2007, hosted at the Videogame Music Archive Forums again.
The host was MaliceX, with some help and support from Blitz Lunar and ButzaW.
The idea of a Sample Pack Contest is quite simple - people submit short original WAV files as samples, which they also have to keep in mind the "theme" or "rule" intended.
When we got the sample packages together, this time there were a handful of complaints regarding the quality and usability of the samples. This proved to be the new obstacle this time round.
In contrast, participants were free to manipulate the samples to their will as much as they like. However, to make things interesting, some rules have been made to make the submitted samples themselves more unique this time around.
While in previous SPCs the sample submission has been not very restrictive, this time around sample submitters were forced to send in only sounds which have been produced using the mouth.
The results are, quite simply put - staggering. It is quite incredible to comprehend the vast diversity of music that can be achieved with such humble resources. Total playtime is a couple minutes off SPC2's total!

Results:

With such great tracks, judging has been a difficult task for sure.
The judgding process was done by a single score, in addition to the anonymization of entries judged.
Judgement was based on three criteria: enjoyablility, sound design and production.
And the results are:

And with all that said and done, here's to Sample Pack Contest IV!
It should happen sometime eventually, and I personally shall pester all involved constantly in order to make sure it does. You can be sure some crazy stuff will be decided as limitations next time. Each time we try and make things more interesting!
